The Past or the Future?
  • How do you feel about your future work?
  • Andre Veloux: Sometimes I am caught between the past and the future. It's obviously more important to create new material than worry about old material, but if your work is hidden in drawers, cupboards, box files, or most likely the depths of hard drives, which 99% of my stuff is, why did you bother in the first place?
  • So how do you reconcile your past with your future work?
  • Andre Veloux: Well, you can't create all day long, so if you think of looking back as the easy part of your job as an artist, you can do the kind of cataloguing and republishing work when you feel in that mood that you need to do something easy. To take a step back to take two steps forward, because you want in some way to reinvent yourself all the time. The thing is, when I am on my own I think my work is really pretty mediocre, I get to thinking what am I doing this for?
  • You do?
  • Andre Veloux: Yes of course, but when I look back at some of my stuff, sometimes I think hey, that's not at all bad you know. You should stick at this game Andre. The thing is all my thoughts are so internal. But that's something to ask about another day.
